Global Language Advocacy Day 2022 is a worldwide event
coordinated by the GCLR and scheduled for February 22, 2022.

Participate in Global Language Advocacy Day

and make your voice heard!

Inspired by 40 years of advocacy for language justice by the Joint National Committee for Languages (JNCL) and the Canadian Language Advocacy Day (#LAD21) the GCLR is coordinating a world day of action on February 22, 2022.

#GLAD22 or Global Language Advocacy Day 2022 is a worldwide event coordinated by GCLR and designed to inspire a change of attitudes, behaviors and beliefs around language rights and linguistic justice.

Our objectives for #GLAD22 are:

  • To connect with public and private sector language industry organizations and language professionals and generate awareness about their work concerning language advocacy;

  • To use the power of participation as ‘advocacy commitment’, pledging support for the cause, and creating a dialogue about language as a human right;

  • To generate media buzz around the cause by reaching out and engaging governments, academia, tech as well as public and private sector organizations.

Both individuals and organizations have the power to spark social progress and policy changes.

Advocating for language rights can be challenging, but these conversations might not happen if you don't add your voice, and language injustices might remain unaddressed.

Whether you are an individual or the representative of a coalition, business or organization, you too can be an advocate for language access and linguistic justice!

What kinds of language advocacy initiatives can I organize?

You can sign up and commit by undertaking a new activity. Your commitment could also be a continuation of your existing initiatives related to language rights and linguistic justice.

In order to connect activities and advocates around the world on the designated day of action, February 22, 2022 - Global Language Advocacy Day, we simply ask that you try to reserve the main event or the major part of your activities or initiative for this day

In order to participate in #GLAD22, you will need to:

  • Decide on the type of advocacy initiative you would like to organize.

  • Show your commitment by signing the Pledge & applying to register your event or activity

  • Promote your event and engage with language advocates around the world through #GLAD22.

I'm in! What are my next steps?

In order to join the movement and participate in Global Language Advocacy Day 2022 you will need to follow these steps:

1. Sign the #GLAD22 Pledge

The pledge is intended to promote language justice as an extension of equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI) efforts in hopes that your activities will inspire more individuals, coalitions, businesses and organizations around the world to join and do the same.

By signing this pledge, you are pledging to make a meaningful effort and implement a minimum of one initiative involving your coalition/company/organization to improve equality, diversity and inclusion related to language rights and linguistic justice. This initiative can either be a commitment to a new activity, or a continuation of your existing initiatives related to language justice within your coalition/company/organization.

2. Register your initiative

After you sign the Pledge, you will be asked to provide some high-level information about yourself and/or your coalition/company/organization, as well as the initiative you would like to organize in support of #GLAD22.

Once we receive your information, we will review it to ensure it is aligned with the #GLAD22 objectives. We may contact you if we require additional information.

Once your initiative has been approved we will ask you to share the description, logo and time/date of your event to be listed on our #GLAD22 pages and sign up for our newsletter to provide you with tools to help you organize your initiative and information on other initiatives around the world, as well as to introduce participants worldwide to one another.
